Crete is a mountainous island where economy dependent in large part of the farming and agriculture way of life of Cretans. The general conditions, the products which were available on the island and the geological difficulties developed a specific dietary way of leaving adapted to everyday needs and capabilities of the people.
One of these foods, perhaps the most classic of Crete is the rusks. They came from the need of the farmers to eat bread, but also it had to be kept in good condition, tasty and nutritious.
So the Cretan rusk became the inseparable companion for those who were forced to stay away from home for some time. Because of the particular taste of the many varieties that created slowly, the rusks are always on the Cretan table, next to the bread and has a special place in all social and festive events of the inhabitants.
There are many varieties of rusks with common characteristics: materials manufacture, the dry, hard, rough texture, that is extremely tasty and digestible but mainly their origin and their name the Cretan rusk.
It has very special, delicious flavor, light yellow color and is available in various sizes. It is a traditional product, exclusive of Crete, it is considered official and is offered at weddings and major celebrations.
